All Star Western #8
This was a very solid and enjoyable issue of All Star Western. Although, I did enjoy the main story a lot more than the backup. Moritat continues to impress me with his layouts and line work. The character of Jonah Hex is such a likable curmudgeon that the reader can never quite be sure what side of the line he walks. Also, the snappy interchange between Jonah and Dr. Arkham was a lot of fun and spot on. And I don’t want to leave out the great scene where Dr. Arkham gets thrown in the pen and starts psychoanalyzing his fellow inmates. Highly enjoyable.

Ultimate Comics Ultimates #9
The country of mutants(not Genosha) is at war with Reed Richard’s City of Tomorrow (and this is nothing like the four cities war in FF). SHIELD and the US government get involved and bring the Hulk. Jonathan Hickman’s writing is decompressed, but not quite as minimalist as usual. Esad Ribic’s art is awesome if you are into that whole photo realistic thing. Pretty entertaining unless you didn’t start reading at issue #1 in which case you will have no fucking clue what is going on (like me).

I, Vampire #8
I, Vampire continues to plod along, and, apparently, something important happened in Justice League Dark that I didn’t read. I love it when major plot developments in a series happen in a different book. Way to reward my loyalty to the series I have been buying. However, to be fair, the series catches me up rather deftly without bludgeoning me over the head with it. So, there is that. The art continues to be atmospheric and moody and the plot actually feels like it moves forward. Though, to be honest, aren’t vampires sorta played out.
May Preorders are up! Notice that Thieves and Kings is being colored and put out in a hardcover by Archaia. Check that shit out! http://www.evilsquidcomics.com/collections/preorder-1
